Reposted from dmstudents.com My least favorite question to get asked as a digital marketer is, “What is your day-to-day routine?” Why? Digital marketing is a field that is constantly evolving and changing.
In order to keep up with the digital marketing world, I have to stay on my feet and keep myself up to date with all the newest trends, data and predictions. The easiest way to start is to follow digital marketing experts. So, the true answer to the question is that my day-to-day routine is filled with learning new things and trying new ideas. Below I’ve listed the sources and ways in which I keep myself educated so that you can also live the day-to-day routine of a digital marketer. Read Blogs You can find content about anything on the internet. To help you sort through it all, here are my top three online marketing blogs to follow (and read).
Follow those digital marketing experts that inspire you Photo by Jehyun Sung on Unsplash DoFollow list Reading blogs is great, but they are not published as often as other social media platforms. Twitter is the place to go for industry news and most importantly algorithm updates directly from Google. Here are some of the best people to follow to keep track of digital marketing trends. Rand Fishkin (@randfish) As I mentioned earlier Rand Fishkin is the former CEO of moz.com and current CEO of SparkToro. He regularly posts insights about the SEO world as well as content about marketing and technology. Scott Galloway (@profgalloway) Scott is a digital marketing professor at the business school at NYU and the owner of multiple digital marketing agencies. He also hosts a podcast, a YouTube channel, and is frequently interviewed for his insights about business trends and marketing events. Scott is a do follow for sure because of his predictions. They’re not always right, but they do provide insight and a comprehensive way of analyzing the business world in a short, concise way. Google webmasters (@googlewmc) This one is a no-brainer for sure. In fact, it probably should be the top of the list. Following the Twitter account of Google webmasters, the people who decide Google’s algorithm, is a must for any digital marketer. This will allow you to stay up to date whenever any new algorithm changes are made. Or even if an error, as rare as they may be, may come up in Google. For example, the Gmail crash that happened two months ago. Influencer Marketing (@influencerMH) These guys are the go to source for anything influencer. From anything like Facebook brand marketers to IGTV preview tactics, they have content to help you stay current in the world of influencer marketing. With articles, news, and conference coverage, you can find all you need to know about influencer marketing here. What to do after you read Like I said, it’s not enough to just follow these blogs. You also have to read them. But not just read them. You have to apply them to your business. For example, about one month ago, Google announced that it would no longer be supporting ads on its AdWords platform that promoted stem-cell research or alternative health supplements that used stem cells on its platforms. Knowing about this algorithm change as soon as possible would have been crucial for anyone in these industries. The sooner they could get out in front with a new strategy, maybe an organic strategy, or advertising on other platforms like Facebook, the sooner they would reap the benefits and get ahead of their competition who were not as quick to pick up on the change. So, take my advice, or don’t. But the moral of the story is don’t ask me what I do every day. Come learn how to stay on top of everything the marketing world has to offer.
